We are in Tuscany among the olive tree groves, the dusty roads of Maremma, the sea, the cliffs and Argentario’s wonderful beaches, at the border with northern Lazio where the ancient Romans and Etruscans met and left a deep heritage. Capalbio, is one of the main cities of this small border region just a few minutes from the beach and halfway between Grosseto, Siena and Rome. Locanda Rossa is born here, in Capalbio’s countryside, in 2010, an ancient farmhouse converted into a resort of contemporary charm, where every detail is well-finished with an eye for functional design. The architecture is linear, everything is well-balanced and harmonious, a cocoon-like environment. The interiors are different for each environment and enriched with contemporary art pieces, converting the rooms in an art gallery which itinerary begins in the common spaces. The renovation, which started in 2008, lead to the creation of 12 rooms, 1 suite and 4 apartments curated by the interior designer Valeria Giuliani. In addition, in 2018, 16 new junior suites and 4 new suites were added, leading the structure to equip itself with a total of 10 rooms, 18 junior suites, 6 suites and 4 villas, some with their own private garden and kitchen. The new rooms are of simple and refined elegance, curated by the architect Tommaso Ziffer, while other two world-renowned experts, landscape architect Paolo Pejrone and architect Paolo Cattaneo, have overseen the outdoor spaces, the gardens and the layout of the new structures. Furthermore, guests of the Locanda Rossa can take advantage of two outdoor swimming pools, one of which is entirely dedicated to children, a multifunctional playground and a complete fitness room. Everything contributes to creating a serene and relaxed atmosphere that makes treatments in the resort’s spa more effective, with a thermal pool, hammam, sauna and emotional showers in a refined and silent environment.
The art of Locanda Rossa is not only figurative but also culinary; restaurant La Cucina uses products that come from Locanda’s vegetable garden mixed with the excellence of Tuscan food, to create and serve local dishes revisited in a modern light, combined with 100% Italian extra virgin olive oil produced by cultivars of Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo from the 3,200 olive trees in the park of Locanda Rossa. To fully enjoy the Tuscan cuisine the Locanda offers cooking classes to explore with the Chef and his brigade a fundamental part of the Mediterranean diet. Locanda Rossa combines its activities with the qualities that most characterize it: the peacefull relaxation, guaranteed by the surrounding countryside of 25 hectares and the wrapping SPA that can boast the collaboration with Laura Bosetti Tonatto, the best known Italian “nose” in the world that has chosen the Locanda Rossa as the first resort in which to present her new collection of products La SPA Essentially Laura (essenzialmentelaura.it/). The philosophy of Locanda Rossa also blends with that of the modern bike hotel, promoting a new way to interact with the surroundings, discovering the Maremma with an array of bikes available to hire (mountain bikes, electric bikes and road bikes) for both amateurs and the most demanding cyclists. Just outside the Locanda a series of well-marked streets with little traffic can be found. The gentle slopes of the hills create a number of possible trails for everyone. Locanda Rossa demonstrates how the integration between a design hotel and the attention for the environment is possible. An equilibrium guaranteed by a photovoltaic system and high-performance solar panels installed, settled so that there is no invasiveness for guests or for the natural aesthetics and, as a Tesla charging partner, the Locanda Rossa helps electric vehicles to travel in Europe offering the possibility of charging with Tesla Destination Charging. Locanda Rossa is an aspiration, a necessary oasis, a calm mood where noise and a deafening frenzy are kept away, a place where time seems to be truly motionless.
