L’ORANGERIE LAKE COMO

Elnava De Rosa, since high school, developed a great passion for food and a natural passion for cuisine that eventually took her to the Cordon Bleu school in Rome, then into the family kitchen and the kitchens of some of the most exclusive restaurants and hotels: Pergola in Rome with her mentor Heinz Beck, Rossellini in Ravello (Sa), Pierre Hermè’s pastry shop in Paris and Oliver Glowig in Rome who falls in love with her sweet masterpieces and convinces Elnava to follow her at the Capri Palace and then at the Aldrovandi Hotel, to move finally with Massimiliano Mandozzi Villa del Quar.
Important experiences that allowed her to become a complete professional.
Her secret? “I always try to put salty and acidic notes into my desserts to avoid the filling effect and to make them the proper conclusion to a tasting menu”. Today, the pastry chef Elnava De Rosa is expressing her great talent and delighting palates at L’Orangerie, the Gourmet restaurant of CastaDiva Resort & Spa, a 5 star luxury Hotel on Lake Como.
Her work is always characterized by concentration.
“Pastry-making requires great precision – she states -.
Everything has to be weighted and errors aren’t allowed: you cannot fix an error by adding or subtracting an ingredient. Pastry-making is an art that requires a lot of preparation and dedication all day long”.

HISTORY: In the early 19th century, Villa Roccabruna – now, the heart of the Resort – was known as "Casino Ribiere" named after its original owner, Madame Ribier, who, according to a legend, was very liberal by nature. An eccentric French dressmaker from Paris, Madame Ribier, lived in Milan while the city was under French rule and made a fortune dressing the ladies of the high society and possibly “undressing their husbands.” In 1827, opera soprano Giuditta Pasta bought the villa with the first money she earned as a professional singer and renamed the property Villa Roda. Giuditta’s dream was to live in a house that
resembled the grand theaters of Milan where she found her success. So, from 1827-1829, Filippo Ferranti, Giuditta’s uncle and engineer, refurbished Villa Roda adding three houses to the main villa as well as two guest homes. The former, a multistory building with an arcade, was designed by painter Francesco Hayez and built by sculptor Alessandro Puttinati. who ultimately
granted Guiditta’s wish by creating a reproduction of the Colonnade of Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

INTERIOR DESIGN:

Well-known Italian architects and interior designers, Mr. Erasmo Figini and Mrs. Alice Fratti Lucini, brought a wealth of experience to CastaDiva Resort & Spa having previously designed a number of luxury hotels and private villas such as (Grand Hotel Majestic and Hotel Astor on Lake Maggiore). The design duo’s goal was for guests to feel a “sense of place” on the picturesque shores of Lake Como, using only the finest Como silk and preserving the “Lombard cotto” historic wooden floors for the perfect balance of cozy, comfortable and luxurious.

THE VILLAS:

Follow the path that runs along the gardens and fountains surrounding the main building of Villa Roccabruna and guests will find the resorts eight villa-style buildings, each named after the great female characters of Italian Opera – Norma, Fiordiligi, Gilda, Leonora, Dorabella, Amina, Violetta and Isotta. These
elegantly-styled structures offer guests stunning views of the lake, as well as authentic and unique 19th century splendor with a modern touch.

come Alessandro Manzoni.

Acclaimed interior designer, Eric Egan, has overseen the refresh of the resort’s accommodation and public areas, creating a sense of modern Italian elegance and subtle oriental charm.

The lush botanical gardens that surround the resort are home to more than 50 different species of plants, trees and flowers. Italian landscape designer, Patrizia Pozzi, chose materials and styles that refer to the neoclassical elements of the original Villa and gardens, creating a verdant setting that provides places for private relaxation and escape.

Acclaimed Executive Chef Vincenzo Guarino and his experienced team oversee the restaurants and bars at Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como, offering an authentic cuisine based on traditional Mediterranean dishes, inspired by local seasonal produce.

CO.MO Bar & Bistrot, with its spacious terrace overlooking the lake, is the ideal place for informal dining at any time of day, and for a traditional Italian aperitivo or after-dinner drinks created by expert mixologists.

Contemporary fine dining restaurant, L˜ARIA, is tucked away within a lakefront building in the heart of the gardens, serving Vincenzo Guarino’s creative expression of Mediterranean cuisine.

Extending out from the shoreline, the resort’s swimming pool and spacious sundeck float on the lake. Guests can bask on sun loungers by the pool from mid-morning to sunset and enjoy refreshing drinks and snacks at the Pool Bar throughout the day.

The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como is a wellness destination in itself. Inspired by the pristine water of the lake, it offers its own distinctive selection of heat and water experiences and Mandarin Oriental’s recognised holistic approach to wellbeing. The spacious facility includes four private spa suites, a beauty studio and a fully equipped Technogym® fitness centre.

The romantic backdrop of tranquil lake, majestic hills and beautiful gardens, provides the perfect setting for weddings, celebrations and private events.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our first guests to Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como very soon”, said General Manager Samuel Porreca, “Mandarin Oriental’s first resort in Europe will be a welcome destination for discerning travellers looking for ultimate privacy, unparalleled views and award-winning cuisine, supported by the brand’s legendary service.”
