HISTORY: In the early 19th century, Villa Roccabruna – now, the heart of the Resort – was known as "Casino Ribiere" named after its original owner, Madame Ribier, who, according to a legend, was very liberal by nature. An eccentric French dressmaker from Paris, Madame Ribier, lived in Milan while the city was under French rule and made a fortune dressing the ladies of the high society and possibly “undressing their husbands.” In 1827, opera soprano Giuditta Pasta bought the villa with the first money she earned as a professional singer and renamed the property Villa Roda. Giuditta’s dream was to live in a house that
resembled the grand theaters of Milan where she found her success. So, from 1827-1829, Filippo Ferranti, Giuditta’s uncle and engineer, refurbished Villa Roda adding three houses to the main villa as well as two guest homes. The former, a multistory building with an arcade, was designed by painter Francesco Hayez and built by sculptor Alessandro Puttinati. who ultimately
granted Guiditta’s wish by creating a reproduction of the Colonnade of Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

INTERIOR DESIGN:

Well-known Italian architects and interior designers, Mr. Erasmo Figini and Mrs. Alice Fratti Lucini, brought a wealth of experience to CastaDiva Resort & Spa having previously designed a number of luxury hotels and private villas such as (Grand Hotel Majestic and Hotel Astor on Lake Maggiore). The design duo’s goal was for guests to feel a “sense of place” on the picturesque shores of Lake Como, using only the finest Como silk and preserving the “Lombard cotto” historic wooden floors for the perfect balance of cozy, comfortable and luxurious.

THE VILLAS:

Follow the path that runs along the gardens and fountains surrounding the main building of Villa Roccabruna and guests will find the resorts eight villa-style buildings, each named after the great female characters of Italian Opera – Norma, Fiordiligi, Gilda, Leonora, Dorabella, Amina, Violetta and Isotta. These
elegantly-styled structures offer guests stunning views of the lake, as well as authentic and unique 19th century splendor with a modern touch.

come Alessandro Manzoni.

The lush botanical gardens that surround the resort are home to more than 50 different species of plants, trees and flowers. Italian landscape designer, Patrizia Pozzi, chose materials and styles that refer to the neoclassical elements of the original Villa and gardens, creating a verdant setting that provides places for private relaxation and escape.

Acclaimed Executive Chef Vincenzo Guarino and his experienced team oversee the restaurants and bars at Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como, offering an authentic cuisine based on traditional Mediterranean dishes, inspired by local seasonal produce.

CO.MO Bar & Bistrot, with its spacious terrace overlooking the lake, is the ideal place for informal dining at any time of day, and for a traditional Italian aperitivo or after-dinner drinks created by expert mixologists.

Extending out from the shoreline, the resort’s swimming pool and spacious sundeck float on the lake. Guests can bask on sun loungers by the pool from mid-morning to sunset and enjoy refreshing drinks and snacks at the Pool Bar throughout the day.
